Shrubby plant with a height ranging from 80 to 250 cm, with a perennial rootstock and partially erect biennial branches known as suckers in the first year and fruiting branches in the second. In many varieties, the sucker can also bear fruit in the first year. The varieties are distinguished into UNIFERA that produce large fruits in a single period and REPEATERS that produce for several months.

PLANTING: Can be grown throughout Italy, prefers loose soils; for heavy soils, add fertilized peat to the planting hole. Plants should be arranged in rows at a distance of 40-50 cm within the row and 200-250 cm between rows. It is advisable to set up a row of posts spaced 200 cm apart and three support wires to which the main branches should be secured.

CULTIVATION: Rustic cultivation, requires little care, emergency irrigation during the summer, and balanced mineral fertilization with a predominance of nitrogen in spring and organic fertilization in late autumn. Can also be grown in pots, ensuring frequent irrigation and fertilization with slow-release fertilizers or fertigation.

TREATMENTS: In dry environments and for hobbyist cultivation, fungicide treatments are usually not necessary; however, two interventions are recommended, the first in autumn and the second at the resumption of vegetative growth with copper and wettable sulfur salts to prevent major adversities.
