Description

Red currant. Medium vigor cultivar with a spreading habit, highly capable of producing suckers: yields excellent results in deep, cool, well-drained soils rich in organic matter. The plants, with drooping branches, are generally supported and suitable for cultivation under tunnels or in greenhouses; harvesting is done through repeated passes. Fruit: 10-12 berries/clusters, large, bright red, ellipsoidal, with few seeds, firm, very juicy. Self-fertile. Maturation June-July.
Pot size 18 x 13 cm
WARNING!!! THE PLANTS WILL BE PRUNED FOR TRANSPORT.

RIBES Rubus idaeus L. (Rosaceae)

Deciduous bushy shrub, quite vigorous, with a height ranging from 50 to 200 cm, with upright branches, production mainly occurs on two-year-old branches from mixed or flowering buds. The flowers, generally self-fertile, are gathered in pendulous racemes (clusters). Deciduous leaves, simple palmately lobed with serrated edges, more or less rounded.

PLANTING: Can be grown throughout Italy but is sensitive to drought, prefers loose soils; for heavy soils, add fertilized peat to the planting hole. In warm regions, it should be planted in semi-shaded areas. Requires frequent watering. Planting distance: 0.80 to 1 m in-row and 200-250 cm between rows.

CULTIVATION: Rustic crop, requires little care, emergency irrigation during the summer, and balanced mineral fertilization with a predominance of nitrogen in spring and organic fertilization in late autumn. Can also be grown in pots with careful attention to frequent watering and fertilization with slow-release fertilizers or fertigation.

PRUNING: At planting, leave 2 or 3 buds per branch; in subsequent years, retain 6 to 8 branches and remove the branches that have produced. Prune at the end of winter.

TREATMENTS: In dry environments and for hobbyist cultivation, fungicide treatments are usually not necessary; however, two interventions are recommended, the first in autumn and the second at the start of the growing season with copper and wettable sulfur salts to prevent major adversities.
