WARNING!!! THE PLANTS WILL BE PRUNED FOR TRANSPORT.
Apricot Prunus armeniaca (Rosaceae)
It loves warmth, withstands drought, and is sensitive to humid areas. It is susceptible to late frosts. In cold regions, plant it in a sunny and sheltered location. It grows in all types of soil, including calcareous. Wait 2 to 4 years for a good harvest.
PRUNING: It mainly flowers on one-year-old wood. It should be pruned minimally to avoid promoting gummosis from December to February. Completely remove the suckers developed on the upper part of the crown and the larger branches located inside to allow sunlight to reach the fruits. A light summer pruning in June is also recommended, removing only the most vigorous suckers that have grown in the upper and inner parts of the tree.
POLLINATION: It is mostly self-fertile. For newer varieties, it is advisable to associate with others that bloom at the same time.
PLANTING: Spacing from 5x3 to 4x4. Potted plants can be transplanted year-round, while bare-root saplings should be planted from December to the end of February. Do not shorten the roots too much.
Pest treatments
Monilia: affects during flowering and fruit setting and near ripening. The use of products containing “triforine” or “benzamidazoles” or “copper-based” can help.
Corineo and Anthracnose: evident with perforated leaves; it is very concerning for early defoliation, so protection should be applied every year at the start of the growing season and after 15 days with products based on Tiram or Dodine.
Bacterial canker: blackish spots on the underside of the leaves that then dry out and fall prematurely. Preventively treat with copper-based products in winter and then during bud swelling.
Scale insects and Aphids.
