Il consiglio dell'ortolano
To have voluminous tufts, fertilize abundantly with organic substance

Description

The professional's celery: with full and flavorful stalks, perfect for dipping and mixed salads. Wrap the stalks with a dark cloth before harvesting to achieve a more tender and tasty heart. Fertilize generously with fast-acting organic matter, and water consistently, avoiding waterlogging, for optimal growth.

Growing Tips

Orto Mio guidelines for the species, to be adapted to the variety, local climate, and cultivation in soil or pots.

Exposure and Temperature

Sun, with shade during the hot summer hours. Growth is favored at 15–24 °C; protect early transplants, as prolonged cold can encourage premature flowering.

Soil and Transplanting

Very fertile and draining soil, capable of retaining moisture, pH 6–7. Generally 25 cm in-row and 40–50 cm between rows. For bunches and celeriac, prefer May to mid-June; for aromatic leaves, the window is broader.

Watering

Water frequently in summer, allowing the surface to dry slightly. Reduce watering in autumn and avoid waterlogging.

Fertilization

Generous initial fertilization 2–3 weeks before transplanting; support growth with distributed applications, approximately every twenty days.

Care and Harvesting

Weed, mulch in summer, and protect from the cold. Gradually harvest the outer leaves for aromatic use; for the bunches, wait for adequate development. Celeriac generally has a longer cycle.
