Description
Description
The Siccagno dwarf tomato var. Patatarello F1 is an ancient variety of cherry tomato suitable for dry farming (i.e., cultivation without irrigation), with berries weighing 50-60 grams.
It has a vigorous, semi-determinate plant that does not require supports or suckering; if desired, it can also be grown vertically like pole tomatoes.
Suitable for open fields, it is early and easy to cultivate due to its adaptability to stress and tolerance to heat and blossom end rot.
It offers the best quality results with reduced water supply, particularly in the days leading up to harvest.
The lack of water enhances the organoleptic qualities of this cherry tomato, which can be consumed raw or used for sauces and purées.
Growing Tips
Orto Mio guidelines for the species, to be adapted to the variety, local climate, and cultivation in soil or pots.
Exposure and Temperature
Choose full sun; in summer, light shading during the central hours is beneficial. Optimal growth at 20–24 °C; protect early transplants from cold.
Soil and Transplanting
Fertile, well-draining soil, preferably with a pH of 6–7. Transplant from March, under protection, to August, depending on the climate. Generally space 40–50 cm in-row and 100 cm between rows; for sauce varieties, even 30 cm in-row.
Watering
Water regularly at the base, allowing the surface to dry between applications. Increase water during flowering and fruit swelling; avoid waterlogging and sudden shifts from drought to heavy watering.
Fertilization
Incorporate mature organic matter before transplanting. Distribute nutrients throughout the cycle, emphasizing potassium for production and avoiding excess nitrogen.
Care and Harvesting
Mulch and retain suckers: in dwarf tomatoes, they should not be removed. Harvest according to the variety and use; for sauce, prefer well-ripened fruits.
