Growing Tips
Orto Mio guidelines for the species, to be adapted to the variety, local climate, and cultivation in soil or pots.
Exposure and Temperature
Full sun. Growth is favored at 15–24 °C; intense heat, fluctuations, and water stress increase the risk of premature bolting.
Soil and Transplanting
Loose or medium-textured, fertile, and well-draining soil, pH 6–7.5. Generally 25 cm in-row and 40–60 cm between rows. The transplanting window should be chosen according to the area, variety, and desired harvest; avoid overly dense planting.
Watering
Frequent interventions in summer, allowing the surface to dry slightly. Reduce frequency in autumn; keep the soil cool during bulb swelling, without waterlogging.
Fertilization
Prepare the soil with generous fertilization 2–3 weeks before transplanting. Support development after about a month, according to growth.
Care and Harvesting
Weed and protect with non-woven fabric during cold periods. Harvest when the bulb is well-formed, without waiting for flowering. Cut at the base with a knife.
