Growing Tips
Orto Mio guidelines for the species, to be adapted to the variety, local climate, and cultivation in soil or pots.
Exposure and Soil
Full sun and protection from cold winds. Fertile, deeply worked, and well-draining soil, preferably pH 6.5–7.
Transplanting
From late winter to autumn, depending on the area and desired harvest. Generally 100 cm in the row and 100–150 cm between rows.
Watering
Regular and abundant during production, without waterlogging; ensure the establishment of summer transplants. Already productive plants enter summer dormancy: suspend watering and resume towards the end of August.
Fertilization
Rich initial organic nutrition; support cultivation at the end of summer and late winter.
Care and Harvesting
Remove excess suckers, leaving 2–3 vigorous shoots per hole; hoeing. Harvest the bud before it opens, when it stops swelling, cutting with 5–10 cm of stem. The productive period depends on the variety and the area.
