Growing Tips
Orto Mio guidelines for the species, to be adapted to the variety, local climate, and cultivation in soil or pots.
Exposure and Soil
Prefer sunlight and well-draining soil rich in organic matter, pH 6–7. In heavy soils, use raised beds.
Transplanting
Generally 10–15 cm in-row and 30 cm between rows. The producer indicates the window from February to June, to be adapted to the climate.
Watering
Limited in the early stages; increase regularity during dry periods and bulb swelling. Always avoid waterlogging.
Fertilization
Manure well in advance, in the previous autumn, without additions close to transplanting. Distribute nutrients during growth according to development.
Care, Harvesting, and Storage
Shallow hoeing. Harvest when the leaves lie down and the stem bends naturally. Let dry in a ventilated position, protected from rain; then store in a dark, dry environment, periodically checking the bulbs.
