When transplanting, a third of the cube must remain above ground.

Description

Varieties suitable for greenhouse and open field cultivation all year round. The leaves are curled, with a beautiful bright color. Sweet and tender, they are also used to decorate dishes. Cultivation cycle of about 30/50 days. Transplant 15-20 cm between plants. Fertilize generously.

Growing Tips

Orto Mio guidelines for the species, to be adapted to the variety, local climate, and cultivation in soil or pots.

Exposure and Temperature

Sun, with partial shade during hot summer hours. Growth is favored at 15–25 °C; tolerance to heat and cold depends on the variety.

Soil and Transplanting

Fertile and well-draining soil, pH 6–7. Generally 20–25 cm in the row and 40 cm between rows. In cubes, leave at least one-third of the clod above the soil. Choose varieties suitable for the season; transplants every 10–15 days allow for staggered harvests.

Watering

Keep the soil moist without waterlogging, allowing the surface to dry. Increase frequency in the heat; near harvest, water at the base, avoiding the foliage.

Fertilization

Moderate inputs before transplanting; intervene again after 2–3 weeks according to development.

Care and Harvesting

Weed between rows and protect with non-woven fabric or tunnels during cold periods. Harvest the head when the heart is full, or progressively take some outer leaves. The cycle varies approximately from 30–40 days in summer to 80–100 in winter.
