Description

The Malga strawberry produces large conical fruits with a bright red color. The flesh is firm and always very sweet. Suitable for transplanting in mountainous areas.

Growing Tips

Orto Mio guidelines for the species, to be adapted to the variety, local climate, and cultivation in soil or pots.

Exposure and Temperature

Full sun or partial shade; in small pots during summer, avoid the hottest sun. Growth is favored at 15–26 °C; protect flowering from cold snaps.

Soil and Transplanting

Rich, well-draining soil with organic matter, pH 5.5–7. Keep the crown visible, without burying it. Single row: 30 cm within the row and 100 cm between rows. Prefer spring for everbearing and late summer for June-bearing varieties.

Watering

Keep the soil cool, never soggy. Drip irrigation is useful to avoid wetting leaves and fruits. For summer transplants, use small frequent waterings until establishment.

Fertilization

Apply split and not overly concentrated fertilizers: strawberries are sensitive to salinity. Potassium is important after fruit formation.

Care and Harvesting

Mulch and shade new summer transplants. June-bearing: spring harvest; everbearing: prolonged production. Harvest ripe fruits frequently, depending on temperature and variety.
