Description

The Mara des Bois Strawberry variety is among the most appreciated everbearing strawberries for the exquisite flavor of its berries. It produces from May to October, with greater generosity in the spring months. The fruits, rounded and medium-small in size, are soft and juicy, reminiscent of strawberries from the past. Its intense aroma and flavor profile evoke wild strawberries, but the sweetness level is much higher: a true delight for the palate! It can be stored in the refrigerator but should be consumed within 3-4 days. It is also widely used for jams. It has a medium vigor plant, adaptable to different soils and suitable for pot cultivation, ideal in central-northern areas and hilly regions.

Growing Tips

Orto Mio guidelines for the species, to be adapted to the variety, local climate, and cultivation in soil or pots.

Exposure and Temperature

Full sun or partial shade; in small pots during summer, avoid the hottest sun. Growth is favored at 15–26 °C; protect flowering from cold returns.

Soil and Transplanting

Soil rich in organic matter and well-draining, pH 5.5–7. Keep the crown visible, without burying it. In single rows: 30 cm apart in the row and 100 cm between rows. Prefer spring for everbearing varieties and late summer for single-cropping varieties.

Watering

Keep the soil moist, never soggy. Drip irrigation is useful to avoid wetting leaves and fruits. For summer transplants, use small frequent waterings until establishment.

Fertilization

Fertilizer applications should be split and not too concentrated: strawberries are sensitive to salinity. Potassium is important after fruit formation.

Care and Harvesting

Mulch and shade new summer transplants. Single-cropping: spring harvest; everbearing: prolonged production. Harvest ripe fruits frequently, depending on temperature and variety.
