systematically eliminate all axillary buds

Description

Dwarf Marmande type Costoluto tomato (80-100 cm), with fruits weighing over 250 g. The fruits are flattened, firm, with deep red flesh, and have a good flavor.

At maturity, the color is uniform, without a yellow shoulder.

Very healthy plant, of medium vigor, well-covering and productive for a long time.

Medium maturation cycle.

For fresh consumption in salads and sauces.

Resistant to common soil diseases.

Leave the axillary shoots (suckers).

Growing Tips

Orto Mio guidelines for the species, to be adapted to the variety, local climate, and cultivation in soil or pots.

Exposure and Temperature

Choose full sun; in summer, a slight shade during the hottest hours is beneficial. Optimal growth at 20–24 °C; protect early transplants from cold.

Soil and Transplanting

Fertile and draining soil, preferably pH 6–7. Transplant from March, under protection, to August, depending on the climate. Generally space 40–50 cm in the row and 100 cm between rows; for sauce varieties, also 30 cm in the row.

Watering

Water regularly at the base, allowing the surface to dry between waterings. Increase water during flowering and fruit swelling; avoid waterlogging and sudden shifts from drought to heavy watering.

Fertilization

Incorporate mature organic matter before transplanting. Distribute nutrients throughout the cycle, emphasizing potassium during production and avoiding excess nitrogen.

Care and Harvesting

Mulch and maintain the suckers: in dwarf tomatoes, they should not be removed. Harvest according to the variety and use; for sauce, prefer well-ripened fruits.
