Description

Dino variety melon is the new exclusive melon from Orto Mio: the favorite among children for its shape resembling a fantastic dinosaur egg.

Sweet and refreshing, it features beautiful green patterns on the skin that make this fruit a small work of art.

Dino F1 is so good because it is the best variety in this type of melons: the one available in the best fruit and vegetable shops during the summer season.

When ripe, the color of the stripes on the skin lightens, making it easier to recognize the right moment for harvesting.

Growing Tips

Orto Mio's guidelines for the species, to be adapted to the variety, local climate, and cultivation in soil or pots.

Exposure and Temperature

Full sun. Optimal growth at 24–30 °C during the day and 18–20 °C at night; protect early transplants from the cold.

Soil and Transplanting

Fertile and draining soil, pH 6–7. Transplant from mid-March, under protection, to June depending on the climate. For classic varieties, leave 80–100 cm in the row and 150 cm between rows.

Watering

Water without waterlogging and allow the surface to dry. Increase water between flowering and swelling; reduce significantly or suspend about seven days before harvesting to enhance quality and prevent splitting.

Fertilization

Add mature organic matter before transplanting and balanced nutrition during the cycle. Potassium is important for fruit growth, especially in deficient soils.

Care and Harvesting

Mulch and protect from the cold. Topping is not always necessary. Harvest generally occurs in 65–80 days; interpret the specific signals of the variety, including skin color and, where present, cracks around the stem.

Precautions for Grafted Plants

For the grafted format, keep the grafting point above the soil and remove any shoots that grow from the rootstock. Adjust supports and space for greater vigor.
