Growing Tips
Orto Mio guidelines for the species, to be adapted to the variety, local climate, and cultivation in soil or pots.
Exposure and Temperature
Full sun, with light shading during the hottest summer hours. Favorable temperatures of 16–27 °C; protect transplants from cold.
Soil and Transplanting
Very fertile and well-draining soil, preferably pH 6–7. Raise the beds in clayey soils. Transplant from March, protected, to June depending on the climate; typically 40–50 cm apart in the row and 100 cm between rows.
Irrigation
Maintain regular moisture; increase water with heat and production without creating stagnation. Avoid deficiencies during berry swelling. Drip irrigation is recommended.
Fertilization
Incorporate mature organic matter 2–3 weeks before transplanting; continue with split nutrition throughout the cycle, approximately every three weeks.
Care and Harvesting
Mulch and tie the stem to a support when it exceeds 30 cm; also support heavy branches. Remove the first fruits until the plant strengthens. Harvest when green or at the mature color of the variety, cutting the peduncle with shears.
