Description

The Patisson Zucchini is an ancient variety with very light, disc-shaped fruits, featuring sweet flesh and suitable for many culinary uses: stewed, baked, stuffed, grilled, and even for preserves in oil or vinegar (by harvesting very small fruits).

The plant is compact and bushy, also adaptable for pot cultivation. Harvest young fruits frequently to achieve the best organoleptic quality.

To prevent powdery mildew, treat with sulfur (organic) from the start of production, 40 days after transplanting, intervening every 10 days.

Growing Tips

Orto Mio guidelines for the species, to be adapted to the variety, local climate, and cultivation in soil or pots.

Exposure and Temperature

Full sun; warmth is favorable for growth. Protect transplants from cold: below 10 °C, production slows down and frost can kill the plant.

Soil and Transplanting

Well-draining soil, preferably pH 6–7. Transplanting from early spring, protected, in August. General spacing 80 × 120 cm; for pole zucchinis 80 × 100 cm, unless specified by variety.

Watering

Water regularly, generally 1–3 times a week depending on climate and soil. Limit excesses after transplanting, increase during production, and allow the surface to dry between waterings.

Fertilization

Mature organic matter before transplanting and balanced nutrition throughout the cycle. During production, the grower suggests potassium-rich applications every two weeks; avoid excess nitrogen.

Care and Harvesting

Mulch, remove damaged leaves and small deformed initial fruits. Tie pole varieties to a support. Harvest often, with young fruits and shiny skin; leave some male flowers for pollination.
