remove any young fruits, if we like to collect only the flowers

Description

Variety of zucchini capable of producing a large number of male flowers. Produces few striped fruits of excellent quality. Strong, climbing plant. Vertical cultivation on a trellis is recommended to save space in the garden. Older leaves affected by powdery mildew should be removed.

Growing Tips

Orto Mio guidelines for the species, to be adapted to the variety, local climate, and cultivation in soil or pots.

Exposure and Temperature

Full sun; warm conditions favor growth. Protect transplants from cold: below 10 °C, production slows down and frost can kill the plant.

Soil and Transplanting

Well-draining soil, preferably pH 6–7. Transplanting from early spring, protected, until August. General spacing 80 × 120 cm; for pole zucchinis 80 × 100 cm, unless specified by variety.

Watering

Water regularly, generally 1–3 times a week depending on climate and soil. Limit excess after transplanting, increase during production, and allow the surface to dry between waterings.

Fertilization

Mature organic matter before transplanting and balanced nutrition throughout the cycle. During production, the grower suggests potassium-rich applications every two weeks; avoid excess nitrogen.

Care and Harvesting

Mulch, remove damaged leaves and deformed small initial fruits. Tie pole varieties to a support. Harvest frequently, with young fruits and shiny skin; leave some male flowers for pollination.
