Description
Transplanting is done from February to November
Growing Tips
Orto Mio guidelines for the species, to be adapted to the variety, local climate, and cultivation in soil or pots.
Exposure and Temperature
Full sun or partial shade, useful in summer. Growth is favored at 15–24 °C; protect from cold during early transplants.
Soil and Transplanting
Fertile, cool, and well-draining soil, pH 6.5–7.5. Coastal beets: 20–25 cm in-row and 35–40 cm between rows. Leafy greens and root beets: generally 10 × 30 cm. One seedling per cell promotes larger clusters or roots.
Watering
Frequent and moderate watering, keeping the soil moist without waterlogging. The producer suggests approximately 1–2 interventions weekly during cooler periods and 3–5 in summer.
Fertilization
Enrich the soil with organic matter; repeat feeding if growth is stunted.
Care and Harvesting
Shallow hoeing and protection during cold periods. For coastal beets, harvest the outer leaves while leaving the heart; for leafy greens, make cuts maintaining 3–4 cm from the soil. Root beets are harvested when the taproot is developed.
