Description

Red thornless unifera raspberry, a vigorous cultivar with good productivity and high sucker activity: it prefers cool soils and should be avoided in high-altitude plantings.

Some info about Raspberries:

Scientific name: Raspberry Rubus idaeus L. (Rosaceae)

Shrubby plant with a height ranging from 80 to 250 cm, with a perennial rootstock and biennial branches that are partially upright, known as suckers in the first year and fruiting branches in the second. In many varieties, even the sucker can bear fruit in the first year.

Varieties are distinguished as UNIFERA, which produce large fruits in a single period, and REPEATERS, which produce for several months.

PLANTING: It can be grown throughout Italy, preferring loose soils; for heavy soils, add fertilized peat to the planting hole. Plants should be arranged in rows with a distance of 40-50 cm within the row and 200-250 cm between rows. It is advisable to set up a row composed of posts spaced 200 cm apart and three support wires to which the main branches should be secured.

CULTIVATION: Rustic crop, requires little care, with emergency irrigation during the summer and balanced mineral fertilization with a predominance of nitrogen in spring and organic fertilization in late autumn. It can also be grown in pots, ensuring frequent irrigation and fertilization with slow-release fertilizers or fertigation.

PRUNING: In winter, remove the two-year-old branches that have borne fruit, and if necessary, thin out the one-year-old suckers.

TREATMENTS: In dry environments and for hobbyist cultivation, fungicidal treatments are usually not necessary; however, two interventions are recommended, the first in autumn and the second at the start of the growing season with copper and wettable sulfur salts to prevent major adversities.
