The daisy, Leucanthemum vulgare, or common daisy, is a perennial herbaceous plant from the Asteraceae (Compositae) family, native to the Canary Islands, widespread throughout Europe, and cultivated in all Italian regions for ornamental purposes.
All species of daisies bloom from May to late September.
In temperate climate regions, blooming can extend into late autumn.
It thrives in bright and sunny locations, up to semi-shaded areas as long as they are sheltered from the wind. It does not tolerate harsh winter cold with temperatures below 5 degrees Celsius.
Although the daisy withstands short dry periods well, it should be watered frequently until early autumn. In winter, watering should be suspended, especially if grown in open ground.
If kept in a pot, it should only be watered when the soil is completely dry to avoid the risk of root rot.
