Heather is widely used to decorate and add color to terraces and gardens even in the winter months, however, care must be taken against frost as it cannot tolerate temperatures below 5°.
It is an evergreen plant native to South Africa and typical of the Mediterranean basin, belonging to the family of Ericaceae.
It adapts well to both pot cultivation and open ground, but prefers partial shade in bright locations, and does not tolerate direct sunlight all day long.
Irrigation should be regular, but never excessive, preferably with low-calcium water. Avoid water stagnation that could compromise the health of the plant's root system.
