Exposure and Temperature
Prefer sunny locations. Favorable growth at 10–21 °C; bulb formation and growth require higher temperatures. Strong fluctuations may encourage premature flowering.
Soil and Transplanting
Well-draining soil, pH 6–7; raise the beds in heavy soils. Generally 10–15 × 30 cm for bulbs, 5 × 30 cm for sets. Short-day varieties: October–November; long-day varieties: March–May.
Watering
In the early stages, water only if necessary. During drought and bulb swelling, increase regularity while avoiding waterlogging. Adjust watering according to rainfall and soil conditions.
Fertilization
Apply manure in advance, in the previous autumn, avoiding applications close to transplanting. Balanced nutrition during growth.
Care, Harvesting, and Storage
