Description

Renowned typical product from Vicenza also known as “Broccolo Fiolaro di Creazzo”. The plant produces shoots, called “fioi”. Harvesting lasts from November to February, but the tastiest ones are those from the first frosts. They can be sautéed or transformed into a cream to dress extraordinary risottos. A true delicacy in the kitchen.
Transplanting is done from May to October

Growing Tips

Orto Mio guidelines for the species, to be adapted to the variety, local climate, and cultivation in soil or pots.

Exposure and Temperature

Full sun or partial shade with at least six hours of direct sunlight. Favorable growth at 20–25 °C; intense heat reduces quality. Protect when temperatures approach zero.

Soil and Transplanting

Fertile and draining soil, pH 6–7. Generally 40–50 cm in-row and 50–60 cm between rows. In spring, prefer March–April; for autumn harvest, the timing varies between late July and September depending on the area and variety.

Watering

Avoid both drought and waterlogging. Moderate watering after transplanting; more water during the growth of the head.

Fertilization

Generous initial fertilization with organic matter; adjust subsequent applications according to development without exceeding nitrogen levels.

Care and Harvesting

For Fiolaro, lateral shoots, called fioi, are harvested in the autumn and winter; the schedule indicates November–February, even after the first frosts. The actual cycle should be assessed according to development.
