Description

New. The Regina is the famous Apulian storage tomato, which can be hung up for winter preservation. It has berries of about 25 grams, in clusters. The plant is vigorous and can reach one meter in length. It withstands drought well and can be cultivated in saline soils. Slow Food Presidium.

Growing Tips

Orto Mio guidelines for the species, to be adapted to the variety, local climate, and cultivation in soil or pots.

Exposure and Temperature

Choose full sun; in summer, a light shading during the central hours is beneficial. Optimal growth at 20–24 °C; protect early transplants from the cold.

Soil and Transplanting

Fertile and draining soil, preferably pH 6–7. Transplant from March, under protection, to August, depending on the climate. Generally space 40–50 cm apart in the row and 100 cm between rows; for sauce varieties, also 30 cm in the row.

Watering

Water regularly at the base, allowing the surface to dry between interventions. Increase water during flowering and fruit swelling; avoid waterlogging and sudden shifts from drought to heavy watering.

Fertilization

Incorporate mature organic matter before transplanting. Distribute nutrients throughout the cycle, emphasizing potassium during production and avoiding excess nitrogen.

Care and Harvesting

Mulch and maintain the suckers: in dwarf tomatoes, they should not be removed. Harvest according to the variety and use; for sauce, prefer well-ripened fruits.
