Growing Tips
Orto Mio guidelines for the species, to be adapted to the variety, local climate, and cultivation in soil or pots.
Exposure and Temperature
Full sun, with slight shading in hot summer. Favorable temperatures of 18–26 °C; below 10 °C, development stops. Protect from cold.
Soil and Transplanting
Fertile soil, rich in organic matter and well-drained, pH 5.5–7.5. Transplant from March, protected, to June depending on the climate. Leave 40–50 cm in the row and 100–120 cm between rows, increasing space for grafted plants.
Watering
Regular watering throughout the cycle; the need increases with heat and fruit growth. Adjust quantity and frequency to the soil, avoiding waterlogging. Drip irrigation helps maintain consistency.
Fertilization
Prepare the soil with mature organic matter 2–3 weeks before transplanting. Support production with distributed contributions over time, approximately every three weeks.
Care and Harvesting
Mulch and support the stem and heavy branches. Remove basal shoots and, in grafted plants, those of the rootstock. Thin the first fruits until the plant gains strength. Harvest with shears when the skin is still glossy, without waiting for excessive sizes.
