Fertilize abundantly with organic substance at transplanting

Description

It is the most sought-after round eggplant on the market, known for its early yield and high production. The fruits are spine-free, with a firm flesh and very few seeds. They can exceed 500 g in weight. A compact plant that requires generous fertilization.

Growing Tips

Orto Mio guidelines for the species, to be adapted to the variety, local climate, and cultivation in soil or pots.

Exposure and Temperature

Full sun, with slight shading during the hot summer. Favorable temperatures of 18–26 °C; below 10 °C, growth stops. Protect from the cold.

Soil and Transplanting

Fertile soil, rich in organic matter and well-drained, pH 5.5–7.5. Transplant from March, protected, to June depending on the climate. Leave 40–50 cm in the row and 100–120 cm between rows, increasing space for grafted plants.

Irrigation

Regular watering throughout the cycle; the need increases with heat and berry growth. Adjust quantity and frequency to the soil, avoiding waterlogging. Drip irrigation helps maintain consistency.

Fertilization

Prepare the soil with mature organic matter 2–3 weeks before transplanting. Support production with distributed contributions over time, approximately every three weeks.

Care and Harvesting

Mulch and support the stem and heavy branches. Remove basal shoots and, in grafted plants, those from the rootstock. Thin out the first fruits until the plant gains strength. Harvest with shears when the skin is still shiny, without waiting for excessive size.
