Il consiglio dell'ortolano
Remove all young fruit for a month after transplanting. Replanting possible at the end of July

Description

Early cycle zucchini with characteristic cylindrical fruits, about 20 cm long, with persistent flowers. Compact and upright plant, very productive. Suitable for greenhouses and open fields. Old leaves affected by powdery mildew should be periodically removed. Naturally resistant to viruses.

Growing Tips

Orto Mio guidelines for the species, to be adapted to the variety, local climate, and cultivation in soil or pots.

Exposure and Temperature

Full sun; warm conditions favor growth. Protect transplants from cold: below 10 °C, production slows down and frost can kill the plant.

Soil and Transplanting

Well-draining soil, preferably pH 6–7. Transplanting from early spring, protected, until August. General spacing 80 × 120 cm; for pole zucchinis 80 × 100 cm, unless specified by variety.

Watering

Water regularly, generally 1–3 times a week depending on climate and soil. Limit excesses after transplanting, increase during production, and allow the surface to dry between waterings.

Fertilization

Mature organic matter before transplanting and balanced nutrition during the cycle. During production, the producer suggests potassium-rich applications every two weeks; avoid excess nitrogen.

Care and Harvesting

Mulch, remove damaged leaves and deformed small initial fruits. Tie pole varieties to a support. Harvest frequently, with young fruits and shiny skin; leave some male flowers for pollination.
