Description

Canestrino di Lucca F1 Tomato

Orto Mio — 6 plants. Canestrino F1 is a Tuscan variety of tomato with a basket shape and green shoulders. The skin is thin and the flesh is soft. You can grow it outdoors or in a greenhouse and use the fruits in salads and sauces.

Variety Characteristics

  • Exposure: Sun
  • Estimated harvest from transplant: 70 days
  • Transplant distance: 40 × 100 cm
  • Weight: 250 g

Times, weights, and dimensions are indicative and vary with climate and cultivation. The plant received may have different sizes and development from the photo; the same development is not guaranteed.

Growing Tips

Orto Mio guidelines for the species, to be adapted to the variety, local climate, and cultivation in soil or pots.

Exposure and Temperature

Choose full sun; in summer, a slight shading during the hottest hours is helpful. Optimal growth at 20–24 °C; protect early transplants from cold.

Soil and Transplanting

Fertile and well-draining soil, preferably pH 6–7. Transplant from March, under protection, to August, depending on the climate. Generally space 40–50 cm in the row and 100 cm between rows; for sauce varieties, even 30 cm in the row.

Watering

Water regularly at the base, allowing the surface to dry between waterings. Increase water during flowering and fruit swelling; avoid waterlogging and sudden shifts from drought to heavy watering.

Fertilization

Incorporate mature organic matter before transplanting. Distribute nutrients throughout the cycle, emphasizing potassium during production and avoiding excess nitrogen.

Care and Harvesting

Mulch. For stake tomatoes, provide supports and periodically remove suckers; for bush varieties, do not remove them. Harvest according to the variety and use: for sauce, prefer well-ripened fruits. Cut the stem if detaching risks damaging the plant.
