Description

Elongated tomato for greenhouse and open field with very high productivity. It has firm and full berries that can exceed 150 g. Good flavor and fruit shelf life, suitable for use in salads and sauces. It resists cracking and high temperatures well. Water consistently from the fruit swelling phase, avoiding waterlogging.

Growing Tips

Orto Mio guidelines for the species, to be adapted to the variety, local climate, and cultivation in soil or pots.

Exposure and Temperature

Choose full sun; in summer, light shading during the central hours is beneficial. Optimal growth at 20–24 °C; protect early transplants from the cold.

Soil and Transplanting

Fertile and draining soil, preferably pH 6–7. Transplanting from March, under protection, to August, depending on the climate. Generally space 40–50 cm in the row and 100 cm between rows; for sauce varieties, also 30 cm in the row.

Watering

Water regularly at the base, allowing the surface to dry between interventions. Increase water during flowering and fruit swelling; avoid waterlogging and sudden shifts from drought to heavy watering.

Fertilization

Incorporate mature organic matter before transplanting. Distribute nutrients throughout the cycle, emphasizing potassium in production and avoiding excess nitrogen.

Care and Harvesting

Mulch. For stake tomatoes, provide supports and periodically remove suckers; do not remove them for dwarf varieties. Harvest according to the variety and use: for sauce, prefer well-ripened fruits. Cut the stem if detaching risks damaging the plant.

Precautions for Grafted Plants

For grafted varieties, keep the grafting point above the soil and remove any shoots that grow from the rootstock. Adapt supports and space to the increased vigor.
