Description

Highly productive variety, featuring characteristic clusters with oval fruits that have low acidity and are not watery, suitable for all culinary uses. It has a deep red color and berries that can reach 150 g, even on high trellises. More resistant to blossom end rot than San Marzano. Naturally resistant to viruses.

Growing Tips

Orto Mio guidelines for the species, to be adapted to the variety, local climate, and cultivation in soil or pots.

Exposure and Temperature

Choose full sun; in summer, light shading during the hottest hours is beneficial. Optimal growth at 20–24 °C; protect early transplants from cold.

Soil and Transplanting

Fertile, well-draining soil, preferably with a pH of 6–7. Transplant from March, under protection, to August, depending on the climate. Generally space 40–50 cm apart in the row and 100 cm between rows; for sauce varieties, also 30 cm in the row.

Watering

Water regularly at the base, allowing the surface to dry between waterings. Increase water during flowering and fruit swelling; avoid waterlogging and sudden shifts from drought to heavy watering.

Fertilization

Incorporate mature organic matter before transplanting. Distribute nutrients throughout the cycle, emphasizing potassium during production and avoiding excess nitrogen.

Care and Harvesting

Mulch. For pole tomatoes, provide supports and periodically remove suckers; do not remove them for bush varieties. Harvest according to the variety and use: for sauce, prefer well-ripened fruits. Cut the stem if detaching risks damaging the plant.

Precautions for Grafted Plants

For grafted varieties, keep the grafting point above the soil and remove any shoots growing from the rootstock. Adjust supports and spacing for increased vigor.
