Description

Citrino horn pepper variety Blanque F1, originating from Eastern Europe; since the early 20th century, it has spread in northern Italy, known as "Bianco piacentino".

It is the main ingredient of the traditional compote, typical of the Piacenza area. It has a good thickness flesh, with a delicate taste.

It is harvested in a citrine yellow color; if left on the plant to ripen, it turns orange-red.

Blanque is naturally resistant to TSWV viruses. In the kitchen, it is ideal for compotes, grilled, and is also highly appreciated raw in salads, as the flavor does not overpower.

Growing Tips

Orto Mio guidelines for the species, to be adapted to the variety, local climate, and cultivation in soil or pots.

Exposure and Temperature

Full sun, with light shading during the hottest summer hours. Favorable temperatures of 16–27 °C; protect transplants from cold.

Soil and Transplanting

Very fertile and draining soil, preferably pH 6–7. Raise the beds in clay soils. Transplant from March, protected, to June depending on the climate; normally 40–50 cm in the row and 100 cm between rows.

Irrigation

Maintain regular moisture; increase water with heat and production without creating stagnation. Avoid shortages during the swelling of the berries. Drip irrigation is recommended.

Fertilization

Incorporate mature organic matter 2–3 weeks before transplanting; continue with fractional nutrition during the cycle, approximately every three weeks.

Care and Harvesting

Mulch and tie the stem to a stake when it exceeds 30 cm; also support heavy branches. Remove the first fruits until the plant strengthens. Harvest when green or at the mature color of the variety, cutting the peduncle with shears.
