Growing Tips
Orto Mio guidelines for the species, to be adapted to the variety, local climate, and cultivation in soil or pots.
Exposure and Temperature
Full sun or partial shade; in summer, prefer afternoon shade. Favorable growth at 15–22 °C; using non-woven fabric during cold periods is beneficial.
Soil and Transplanting
Fertile, cool, and well-draining soil, preferably with a pH of 6–7. Generally, 5 cm in-row and 15–30 cm between rows. Transplanting from February to October depending on the climate, with protection during early periods.
Watering
In the first weeks, provide small frequent waterings without waterlogging. After establishment, allow the surface to dry before the next watering; reduce in cooler weather.
Fertilization
Rich organic fertilization before transplanting; support regrowth with monthly applications after harvesting.
Care and Harvesting
Shallow hoeing, even after cuts, and protect from the cold. Harvesting can begin after 20–40 days depending on the season; initially, pick the outer leaves and maintain the ability to regrow.
