Abate Fetel pear is a highly valued variety known for its distinctive long “neck”. Green-yellowish skin. Very juicy, slightly acidic, and pleasant flesh. Ripens in early September.
The Abate Fetel pear prefers a rustic soil, is sensitive to sandy, very clayey, and calcareous soils when grafted onto quince. Quite demanding, it prefers fresh, deep, permeable, and rich soil. It is sensitive to drought and strong winds. The planting distance varies according to the shape of the trees. Follow the same guidelines as for apple trees regarding planting spacing and pruning.
Pollination
Although some varieties are self-fertile (Guyot, Conference), the pear requires the planting of at least two varieties to fruit well.
