Description

Capra Horn Pepper: the Italian specialty for sweet paprika

The Capra Horn Pepper is a specialty found in many Italian regions: Basilicata, Calabria, Abruzzo, and parts of Puglia and Campania. It is a pepper with a sweet flavor and thin flesh, ideal for drying to produce the best sweet paprika.

The fruits are red with a slender horn shape and reach 25 cm in length, perfect for both fresh consumption and processing.

Why choose the Capra Horn Pepper

  • Sweet flavor and thin flesh, perfect for any preparation
  • Ideal for sweet paprika: optimal drying thanks to the thin flesh
  • Versatile in the kitchen: fresh or as a flavor enhancer
  • Fruits 25 cm long with a characteristic red color
  • Vigorous plant and easy to cultivate
  • Excellent yield in open fields

Growing characteristics

Exposure: Sun
Plants that prefer full sun require a south-facing exposure, with at least 6 hours of direct sunlight per day, even during the central 3-4 summer hours. The exposure indicates how many hours of direct sunlight the plant needs for optimal growth. It can be full sun, partial shade, or shade, depending on the amount of natural light the plant needs to thrive and produce fruit. This information helps position the plants to encourage their growth.

Harvest time: 85 days
The harvest time indicates how many days it takes for the fruit to be ready for picking (note: ripening may occur at different times than indicated, influenced by climatic factors, irrigation, and soil fertility).

Transplant distance: 40x100
The transplant distance is the space between plants at the time of planting, both in the row and between rows. A correct distance avoids competition for light and nutrients, promoting growth and yield, while distances that are too close or too wide can negatively affect the quantity and quality of the fruits.

Weight: 45 g
Indicates the average weight of the fruits harvested under normal growing conditions. This value may vary depending on factors such as the harvesting phase, fertilization practices, and climatic conditions. In the first harvests, the weight may be lower than the indicated values. Additionally, conditions such as drought, water shortages, temperature fluctuations, and poor or excessive nitrogen fertilization affect fruit growth, which may be above or below expectations.

Italian tradition and quality

The Capra Horn is an extremely vigorous and easy-to-cultivate variety, with excellent production in open fields. Perfect for those who want to grow a traditional Italian pepper with multiple uses in the kitchen.
