Growing Tips

Orto Mio guidelines for the species, to be adapted to the variety, local climate, and cultivation in soil or pots.

Exposure and Temperature

Full sun or partial shade during hot periods. Growth is favored at 15–24 °C; intense heat encourages flowering.

Soil and Transplanting

Fertile, light, and well-draining soil, pH 6.5–7.5. Generally 5 cm in-row and 25 cm between rows; for baby spinach, cubes can be placed closer together. Leave one-third of the root ball above the soil. Transplant from February, protected if necessary, to October in mild areas.

Watering

Water frequently with moderate amounts, avoiding waterlogging. Typically 1–2 times a week in cool, dry periods, 3–4 in summer; adjust to soil and climate.

Fertilization

Organic fertilization before transplanting; intervene after 2–3 weeks if growth is insufficient.

Care and Harvesting

Shallow hoeing and using non-woven fabric in cold periods. For baby spinach, harvest the young outer leaves while leaving some in the center to allow for regrowth.
