Growing Tips

Orto Mio guidelines for the species, to be adapted to the variety, local climate, and cultivation in soil or pots.

Exposure and Temperature

Sun or partial shade; in small pots during summer, avoid the hottest sun. Growth is favored at 15–26 °C; protect flowering from cold returns.

Soil and Transplanting

Soil rich in organic matter and well-draining, pH 5.5–7. Keep the crown visible, without burying it. In single rows: 30 cm in-row and 100 cm between rows. Prefer spring for everbearing and late summer for June-bearing varieties.

Watering

Keep the soil moist, never soggy. Drip irrigation is useful to avoid wetting leaves and fruits. For summer transplants, use small frequent waterings until establishment.

Fertilization

Fertilizer applications should be split and not too concentrated: strawberries are sensitive to salinity. Potassium is important after fruit formation.

Care and Harvesting

Mulch and shade new summer transplants. June-bearing: spring harvest; everbearing: prolonged production. Harvest ripe fruits frequently, according to temperature and variety.
