Gazanias are plants of African origin belonging to the Compositae family, with elongated leaves with serrated or entire edges.
Their flowers close as soon as the sun sets and attract a lot of bees and butterflies; flowering is abundant from May onwards and if the plants are well sheltered they also flower in winter.
The ideal temperature for growing and flowering is between 16° and 24° C.
Plants grown in open ground are content with rainwater but, in periods of prolonged drought and in summer, they need to be watered regularly.
However, they are very easy to grow even in medium-sized pots and in this case they need to be watered more frequently than those grown in open ground and in winter they need to be protected from the cold.
