Exposure and Temperature
Sun, with at least 6–8 hours of direct light. Favorable growth at 13–24 °C; winter varieties have greater frost resistance.
Soil and Transplanting
Very fertile and draining soil, pH 6–7. Transplants generally from March to September. Spacing 10–15 cm in the row and 30–50 cm between rows. Possible greater depth in draining soils, avoiding this practice where water stagnates.
Watering
Regular during dry periods, according to growth phase and soil. During rainy periods, natural water may suffice; avoid excess and stagnation.
Fertilization
Generous organic fertilization a few weeks before transplanting; support growth with monthly applications.
Care and Harvesting
Protect with fine netting from leek fly. Hill up starting from about fifty days, repeating monthly, to elongate the white part. Harvest by loosening the soil without pulling; cycle depends on variety and timing.
