Description

Established historical variety of early cycle pea with a plant that can be grown without support. Produces pods 10-12 cm long containing 7/8 grains of great sweetness and quality. The yield is very abundant and staggered. Irrigation is recommended only in case of prolonged drought. Very easy to cultivate in all types of soil. Suitable for freezing.

Growing Tips

Orto Mio guidelines for the species, to be adapted to the variety, local climate, and cultivation in soil or pots.

Exposure and Soil

Full sun; growth favored at 10–21 °C. Fertile and draining soil, pH 6–7.5. Prolonged heat reduces production.

Transplanting

From late October to April; generally 10 cm in the row and 50 cm between rows. Protect early transplants from cold returns.

Irrigation

Regular and moderate watering during warm periods, avoiding waterlogging. Pay particular attention to flowering and pod setting.

Fertilization

Adjust according to fertility: in poor soils, add organic matter in advance; in fertile soils, limited fertilization, paying attention to phosphorus.

Care and Harvesting

Shallow hoeing; provide nets or supports of at least 100 cm. Harvest when the seeds are swollen but still tender, before they harden and lose sweetness.
