Also known as "cummarazzi" or "carosello salentino", the Meloncella or spuredda is one of the most interesting and sought-after specialties from Puglia during the summer season. Very similar to melon, it produces dark striped, elongated fruits with firm, crunchy, digestible, and refreshing flesh. Ideal for consumption in salads, as a substitute for cucumber, or as an appetizer, with cold pasta, and also as a side dish instead of bread.
