Description
The Neapolitan Purple Top Eggplant is a typical Campanian excellence, featuring elongated, club-shaped fruits with dark purple skin and a slightly spiny calyx.
The plant has a bushy growth habit, and being an ancient variety, it is less uniform and productive compared to other eggplants in the range.
The organoleptic quality of the fruits is highly appreciated, with firm white flesh that is less prone to oxidation and contains few seeds.
In cultivation, a drastic pruning of the vegetation at the beginning of August (when the plant is less productive and susceptible to pest attacks due to the scorching temperatures) encourages a generous production of higher quality fruits from September onwards (in the first harvest in July, the fruits are fewer in number and less uniform).
The Purple Top Eggplant is used in all classic eggplant recipes; it is fantastic when fried and also highly valued for preserves in oil and vinegar.
