Description
Photinia Red Robin hedge (Photinia - Rosaceae) for the garden. The plant is 70/80 cm tall. The pot size is 15 cm.
General information: evergreen shrub or small tree that can reach heights of 3-4 meters; it is a hybrid, with the parent plants being P. glabra, native to Japan, and P. serrulata, native to China. This is a rounded, leafy shrub with thin, well-branched stems; the leaves are oval or lanceolate, bright red when they sprout, turning dark green later; even during autumn and winter, some leaves may take on an orange hue. In early spring, it produces numerous small white flowers, clustered in corymbs, with a delicate fragrance. In summer, small reddish berries can be seen on the plants. There are numerous cultivars with particularly vibrant leaf colors; the most widely cultivated is certainly P.xfraseri "Red Robin". These shrubs are commonly used in hedges but are also suitable as single specimens or in mixed borders. After flowering, it is advisable to prune the longer branches to maintain a dense and well-branched shrub, even at the lower part; it is also possible to allow the plant to develop freely or in a tree form, to achieve a small tree with a rounded crown.
