Growing Tips

Orto Mio guidelines for the species, to be adapted to the variety, local climate, and cultivation in soil or pots.

Exposure and Temperature

Sun or partial shade with at least six hours of direct sunlight; shading is useful in hot summer. Growth is favored at 20–30 °C; protect from cold.

Soil and Transplanting

Fertile, cool, and draining soil, pH 6–7. Transplants from March, protected, to August depending on the climate. Generally 40–50 cm in-row and 100 cm between rows.

Watering

Maintain regular moisture without waterlogging. From flowering, the need increases. Quantity and frequency depend on heat and soil: the producer indicates 1–2 interventions weekly in cool periods and 3–5 in summer.

Fertilization

Prepare the soil with rich organic fertilization and support production with applications every 2–3 weeks.

Care and Harvesting

Mulch and set up nets or supports for vertical cultivation. Promptly remove the first small or deformed fruits. Harvest before yellowing, cutting the peduncle; the first quality fruits usually arrive after 30–40 days, with climatic variations.
