The Sharon Persimmon (Heritage Variety) features a small, flat fruit. Astringent at harvest, the fruits should be consumed when softened, firmer than the Type persimmon.
Maturation begins in early October.

Persimmon - Diospyros
(Ebenaceae) It is also an ornamental tree. The orange fruits remain on the branches for a long time. Harvesting takes place from mid-October to early November. It is not demanding regarding soil type and exposure, preferring sheltered spots in northern areas. Young trees are sensitive to severe frosts. ‘Type-Loto di Romagna’: astringent at harvest, the fruits should be consumed when softened, about a month later, soft and sweet. ‘Vaniglia’: sweet, non-astringent at harvest if pollinated, consumed while firm. ‘Hana fuiju’: known as persimmon apple, large, quadrangular, always edible (non-astringent) at harvest, consumed when the texture is like that of an apple.
