Description

The "Canary" yellow melon is one of the most popular melons in mid-summer, being among the sweetest and most refreshing. It is also called "winter melon" due to its excellent shelf life. The flesh is very pleasant, crisp, and sweet.

Porthos is one of the highest-performing professional varieties: extremely productive, with fruits of uniform size that can exceed 2.5 kg in weight.

It has a vigorous plant with a very strong root system, adaptable even to depleted soils and the extreme climatic conditions of hot and dry summers.

Porthos is easy to grow, also thanks to a rare resistance package in this type of melon, which includes powdery mildew, aphids, and fusarium wilt (Fom 0,1).

Fertilization with moderate amounts of nitrogen and rich in potassium is recommended.

Organic treatments with copper are appreciated in case of rain and if the vegetation is very exuberant.

Water moderately, suspending irrigation in the final stages of ripening, in order to enhance the sugar content of the fruits and prolong shelf life.

Porthos has a late ripening cycle and is harvested when the skin turns a very deep yellow, almost orange; easily distinguishable by comparing more mature fruits with unripe, lighter ones.
