Description
ATTENTION!!! PLANTS WILL BE PRUNED FOR TRANSPORT.
Apricot Prunus armeniaca (Rosaceae)
It loves heat, tolerates drought and fears humid areas. It fears late frosts. In cold regions, plant it in a sunny and sheltered position. It grows on all soils, even calcareous ones. Wait 2 to 4 years for a good harvest.
PRUNING: It flowers mainly on one-year-old wood. It should be pruned sparingly, to avoid gummosis in the period December-February. Completely eliminate the suckers that have developed on the upper part of the crown and the larger branches located inside to favor the sun exposure of the fruits. It is also advisable to carry out a light summer pruning in June, eliminating only the most vigorous suckers that have grown in the upper and internal part of the tree.
POLLINATION: It is self-fertile in most cases. For the newer varieties, it is recommended to combine them with others that flower at the same time.
PLANTING: 5x3 to 4x4 spacing. Potted plants can be transplanted all year round, bare root shoots are planted from December to the end of February. Do not shorten the roots too much.
Anti-parasitic treatments
Monilia: strikes during flowering and fruit setting and near fruit ripening. The use of products containing “triforines” or “benzamidazoles” or “coppers” can help.
Coryneum and Anthracnose: it is evident with leaves with holes; it is very fearful due to early defoliation and therefore the defense must be done every year at the vegetative restart and after 15 days with products based on Tiram or Dodine.
Bacterial canker: blackish spots on the underside of the leaves which then dry up and fall prematurely. Treat preventively with copper products in winter and then during bud swelling.
Scale insects and aphids.
