ATTENTION!!! PLANTS WILL BE PRUNED FOR TRANSPORT.

Blackberry Chester giant thornless late. Among the thornless cultivars it is the most resistant to winter cold. Very vigorous plant, with erect shoots, large diameter and excellent productivity. Medium fruit, black in color that fades with too intense solar radiation, firm, with a sweet flavor.
Giant thornless blackberry Rubus fruticosus (Rosaceae)
Shrubby plant with a height between 80 and 250 cm, with a perennial stump and partially erect biennial branches called suckers in the first year and fruit-bearing branches in the second. Production occurs exclusively on fruit-bearing branches. Persistent foliage, finely jagged. Excellent for decorating walls, pergolas, fences, etc... During the summer it produces large, very sweet black fruits. We have different varieties, with an erect or creeping habit.
PLANTATION: It can be grown throughout Italy, prefers loose soil, on heavy soils add fertilized peat to the hole. The plants should be arranged in rows at a distance of 40-50 cm on the row and 200-250 cm between the rows. It is advisable to prepare a row composed of poles at a distance of 200 cm from each other and three support wires to which the main branches will be secured.
CULTIVATION: Rustic crop, requires little care, emergency irrigation in the summer period and balanced mineral fertilization with a prevalence of nitrogen in spring and organic fertilization in late autumn. It can also be grown in pots, taking care of frequent irrigation and fertilization with slow-release fertilizers or with fertigation.
PRUNING: In winter, remove the two-year-old branches that have borne fruit and, if necessary, thin out the one-year-old shoots.
TREATMENTS: In dry environments and for hobby crops, fungicide treatments are usually not necessary, however two treatments are recommended, the first in autumn and the second at the vegetative restart with copper salts and wettable sulphur to prevent the main adversities.
