Description

Ready-to-plant asparagus crowns of the Violetto variety, derived from numerous selections of the old "Violetto d’Albenga" variety. This is a luxury asparagus, once again in demand by the most discerning consumers, also because it has a unique and unbeatable flavor. Absolutely a must-try! Also excellent eaten raw (alone or in mixed salads) and grilled.

Characterized by thick, intensely purple spears that gradually fade towards the base, it is particularly soft and buttery (lacking the fibrousness typical of other asparagus), with a good sweet tendency and a range of varied and pleasant vegetable notes. Excellent simply boiled and seasoned with a pinch of pepper and extra virgin olive oil; suitable for elaborate preparations, it also pairs well with delicate foods (such as fish). If boiled, steamed, or baked, it also goes well with white meats and semi-aged cow's milk cheeses. Also great raw, cut into thin slices for tasty mixed salads.

The package contains 10 crowns.

How to grow Violetto Asparagus:

Prepare an inverted trapezoidal furrow 15-20 cm deep, 30 cm wide at the base and 40 cm at the top, well-drained and well-fertilized with organic matter. The optimal time for transplanting is from November to April. The crowns should be placed in a single row at the bottom of the furrow, spaced 30 cm apart (3 crowns per linear meter), making sure to spread the roots out horizontally and cover them immediately with 5 cm of soil. The distance between rows varies from 100 to 120 cm. At the end of the 1st year of planting, cover with an additional 5 cm; it is recommended to harvest 2-3 asparagus per plant (this promotes the strengthening of the asparagus bed). After harvesting (late spring-early summer), allow the foliage to develop and fertilize during the summer with nitrogen and potassium fertilizers. In autumn, when the foliage has yellowed, cut it to ground level and fertilize with mature manure or similar. During cultivation, keep the asparagus bed free of weeds. Cleaning hoeing should be very superficial. Irrigate during dry periods.

Weeding should be very shallow. Irrigate during dry periods.
