Description
Description
Pisana Tardiva Self-Fertile Apricot in 20 cm pot - Large, intense yellow fruit with red blush. Firm flesh. Matures early July. Does not produce on one-year-old wood, suitable for central-southern Italy.
ATTENTION!!! PLANTS WILL BE PRUNED FOR SHIPPING.
Apricot Prunus armeniaca (Rosaceae)
Loves warmth, tolerates drought, and dislikes humid areas. Susceptible to late frosts. In cold regions, plant in a sunny, sheltered location. Grows in all soil types, including calcareous ones. Wait 2 to 4 years for a good harvest.
PRUNING: Flowers mainly on one-year-old wood. Prune sparingly to avoid gumming in December-February. Completely remove suckers that grow on the upper part of the canopy and the largest branches inside to allow sunlight to reach the fruit. It is also advisable to perform light summer pruning in June, removing only the most vigorous suckers that have grown on the upper and inner parts of the tree.
POLLINATION: Is self-fertile in most cases. For newer varieties, association with others that flower at the same time is recommended.
PLANTING: Spacing from 5x3 to 4x4. Potted plants can be transplanted year-round; bare-root saplings are planted from December to late February. Do not shorten the roots too much.
Pest and Disease Control
Monilia (Brown Rot): Affects during flowering and fruit set, and when fruits are ripening. Products containing "triforines," "benzimidazoles," or "copper-based" compounds can help.
Coryneum Blight and Anthracnose: Evident with shot-hole leaves; very dangerous due to early defoliation, so protection should be done annually at the start of vegetative growth and 15 days later with products based on Thiram or Dodine.
Bacterial Canker: Blackish spots on the underside of leaves which then dry out and fall prematurely. Treat preventively with copper-based products in winter and then during bud swelling.
Scale Insects and Aphids.
