Reptiles and amphibians are heterothermic or cold-blooded. A suitable heating system is therefore a very important factor in the natural setting of the terrarium. Reptiles in captivity can partly regulate their body temperature with radiant heat, provided by the lighting system or the Ceramic Heater lamp. In their natural biotope, reptiles often use surfaces heated by the sun, such as branches, rocks or the forest floor, as heat conductors. The Heat Weave Rock and heat mats simulate these natural conditions by heating the rock or terrarium substrate, stimulating the natural thermoregulatory behavior of reptiles.
The Exo Terra Ceramic Heater is a radiant heat source and generates a natural (sun) heat with uniform peaks similar to the sun. The long-wave infrared heat produced by this emitter will heat reptiles very efficiently. In addition to increasing the ambient temperature in the terrarium, the infrared heat penetrates the skin tissue, promoting health, dilates blood vessels and increases blood circulation. The Ceramic Heater should only be used with the specially designed clamp light by Exo Terra.
