General information: herbaceous perennials native to Europe, Asia and North America, which form low cushions from which short stems branch out that bear colorful five-petaled flowers, in some varieties even double, in colors ranging from white, to yellow, to red, to blue. The leaves are oval, bright green, with very marked, rough veins. It blooms in early spring and the flowering continues for a long time, sometimes they bloom again in late summer.
Exposure: it likes any type of exposure, both in the sun and in the shade, preferring in any case the partial shade, away from the direct rays of the sun. It does not fear the cold at all, in fact it is recommended to bury it in autumn to have a wonderful flowering at the beginning of spring. Sometimes in the warm months, or during very cold winters, the aerial part dries up, but the plant begins to develop again in January-February, to produce the first flowers towards the end of winter.

Watering: it needs to be watered regularly, especially in late spring. Generally in winter and spring it is satisfied with rain, but it is still advisable to check the soil, starting from the beginning of February, avoiding it drying out excessively. From March to October provide fertilizer for flowering plants every 10-15 days.

Soil: It does not have any particular soil requirements, a garden compost is fine, as long as it is fertile and well drained.

Multiplication: can be done from seed, in spring, using fresh seeds, which are sown in a mixture of sand and peat in equal parts, the seedlings are planted in autumn and will flower the following year. If desired, in autumn you can also divide the tufts, thus producing new seedlings to plant immediately. Primroses hybridize easily with each other, so the seeds generally do not produce specimens identical to the mother plant.

Pests and diseases: watch out for possible attacks by green and black aphids. Heavy spring rains or excessive watering can favor the onset of gray mold, which ruins flowers and leaves.
